Joko’s Personal Assistance - As Quoted

Personal Assistance at the End of Life

When someone you love is dying, everything changes. Time slows down, and also speeds up. Ordinary things start to feel impossible like the laundry, the dishes, the phone calls, the decisions.

There’s too much to do and no energy to do it.

I step in so you don’t have to handle every detail on your own.

I work as a Personal Assistant when someone is dying. My work lives somewhere between the practical and the sacred. I sit at bedsides. I bring food. I care for pets. I make sure the house feels calm and cared for. I give you space to rest and to cry. I check in, listen, pray, hold your hand, or leave you alone when that’s what’s needed.

I believe women are not meant to do this caregiving alone.
We need places to rest.
We need space to think and feel.
We need someone who can see what’s needed before we ask.
We need support that feels personal and intuitive, not just helpful.

Sometimes that looks like respite care so you can sleep. Sometimes it’s sitting quietly beside you while the person you love is taking their last breaths. Sometimes it’s sending a funny meme to remind you that you’re still in the world.

I help clarify what you want as death approaches, how you want to move through this time, what needs to be said or done, and what comes next. I can talk with the funeral home on your behalf, explain what things mean, confirm details, or gently push back with organizations when something doesn’t feel right.

After death, I can help choose clothing, bathe and dress the body, write obituaries and eulogies, plan services, and help create takeaways for the ceremony. I can officiate if you wish. I can make sure your fridge is stocked, your phone is answered, and your heart is carried gently. I’ll keep you hydrated. I’ll clean the kitchen. I’ll help you find words, or sit in silence with you when there aren’t any.

I am a grief support specialist, death doula, and career funeral professional with 26 years of experience. I know this landscape well, the practical details, the emotional waves, the long after. I am not afraid of the dying, and I am not afraid of your grief.

Whether you need structure, rest, clarity, or just someone steady beside you, I am here.

Pricing depends on days, hours, and travel.
This is a special, private offering for those who want full-spectrum support through the dying process and beyond.

If your world is under water, and you need someone to help you keep the ship afloat, reach out. We’ll find the way through, together.

Karen taking the reins for my mom’s memorial was a blessing. Her presentation was so good that not only did I learn things about Mom, but afterwards friends of mine that hadn’t even met Mom felt like they knew her. Karen wove together stories she’d gathered from family and friends with her own extensive personal observations about dying and those of us left behind. This was done so beautifully that the memories of that service will be with me forever. Makes me smile.
