Joko’s Personal Assistance - As Quoted
Personal Assistance at the End of Life
When someone you love is dying, you are asked to balance family, career, and lifestyle against the emotional and physical toll of caregiving.
We aren’t taught about the death and dying process (or what comes after), and this means overwhelm, decision making under pressure, and sometimes family conflict.
There’s too much to do and no energy to do it, which is why I step in - so you don’t have to handle every detail on your own.
I work as a Personal Assistant when someone is dying, because I believe women are not meant to do caregiving alone.
My work is balanced between the practical and the sacred.
Here is a short list of what my services may include:
Respite Care so you can take a break
Light cleaning so your bathroom and kitchen stay comfortable and functional.
Basic Pet Care
Grocery Shopping
Active listening - to the family and the dying person.
Legacy documentation - audio stories, letter writing, Remento or StoryCorps etc.
Educate on dying process and/or provide resources for self-study
“Set and Setting” discussion and sacred-space creation. What can we do to help our mindset, and create an appropriate and meaningful setting for someone to spend their final days?
Companionship - Talking. Tea. Laughter. Walks. etc.
Professional communication facilitation between you and a funeral home, cemetery or other death care provider.
Help you create and manage your list of to-dos, including things you may never think of.
Eulogy and Obituary writing.
End-of-Life event planning - funeral, celebration of life, party, wake or any meaningful event that honors your person.
MAiD preparation and day-of support.
After death - Bathing and dressing of your loved one and sitting vigil

“I had a lot of pride in knowing that I had this immense security blanket holding me the entire time, and that I felt secure. I felt safe. I felt like if I had if something came up, I knew that there was an expert next to me who was going to be able to step in and make the right decision. Even if I couldn’t hear it - even if I didn’t know that it was the right decision because of my grief, I knew that you were giving me good advice the whole time.
